Baneasa International airport is located 8.5 kilometers north from the center of the Romanian capital Bucharest. It started operating in 1912, which makes it the oldest airport in Eastern Europe and one of the five oldest airports in the world. Until 1965, this was the only airport in the capital. It only has one Terminal which is located in a beautiful building. The building is of historical importance and cannot be upgraded or extended.
Even though it is much closer to the center than the other airport Otopeni, it is the second busiest airport in Bucharest and mainly serves the flights of the low cost companies. Baneasa is the home of the low cost airline Blue Air.
We organize regular transfers to and from Baneasa airport. Please contact us for more details.
Henri Coanda International Airport (within Otopeni city) is the busiest airport in Romania. It is located 16.5 kilometers away from Bucharest’s center. It is used as headquarters of TAROM, which is the national airline of Romania. It is also a base for low-cost and charter airlines.
The airport has only one terminal however it is spread into two buildings – Arrivals and Departures, which very often is confusing for the travelers. Don’t worry if you get to the wrong one as there is a walkway with many shops that connects the two buildings. There are 32 gates in total at the airport.
Sometimes it is cheaper to fly to an airport in Romania and then fetch a taxi to Bulgaria.
